Panelist Bios

Lloyd Cornett, LL.B.

Lloyd is the firm's Real Estate Practice Group Leader. He represents property owners and managers, private and institutional investors, developers, brokers and lenders with respect to real estate. He has been extensively involved in the acquisition, development and sale of properties, the negotiation of joint venture arrangements and construction contracts and the management and leasing of projects. A very large part of Lloyd's practice is focused on commercial leasing matters. He designs and drafts lease documents for differing types of developments, represents both landlords and tenants in lease negotiations, and provides advice regarding lease defaults and remedies. Lloyd is a Certified Specialist in Real Estate Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada and is recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of Real Estate Law.

Donald B. Johnston, LL.B

Donald is Chair of the Technology Team, as well as a member of the Corporate/Commercial Practice Group and Natural Resources Team. He is a well-known technology lawyer with broad experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer. Don has demonstrated over two decades of expertise in technology procurements, licensing and related transactions, and has acted for numerous technology developers. He has been involved in major technology projects (including nuclear and oil and gas) acquisitions, financing and development projects - in both Canada and the U.S. Don is recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in Canada in the specialty of Technology Law.

Derek McCallum, LL.B.

Derek is a partner and member of the Real Estate Group and the Environmental and Distressed Real Estate Asset Group, with many years of experience both as in-house counsel and in private practice. His practice focuses on general commercial real estate, including acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, financing transactions, construction, mortgage enforcement and lease remedies. He is also a member of the firm’s Environmental Team where he assists clients in the negotiation of both rooftop and groundmount solar leases. Derek is a member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (Toronto NAIOP).

Scott Stoll, LL.B.

Scott is a partner and member of the firm's Litigation Group, as well as the Energy and Environmental Teams. He is both a lawyer and licensed professional engineer and has over fifteen years experience in the energy field, first as a project engineer and more recently as a lawyer. Scott has extensive experience in the electricity and natural gas sector. He represents distributors, generators, retailers and transmitters in the electricity industry, in addition to representing distributors and storage developers in the natural gas industry. He provides advice to clients regarding the regulated environment in which the energy industry operates including OEB rates, licenses and facility applications, IESO-administered markets and IESO compliance. He has advised project proponents with regard to the recent procurement processes of the Ministry of Energy and the OPA and he has also assisted clients with issues about market participation and compliance with the IESO Market Rules.

Barbara Worndl, LL.B.

Barbara is a partner and Practice Group Leader of the firm's Tax Group. Her practice is focused on income tax with an emphasis on corporate and partnership taxation, particularly in an international and cross-border context. She has extensive experience in structuring cross-border acquisitions, reorganizations and franchising structures. Barbara's practice includes derivative transactions, REITs and syndications. She also has experience dealing with the resolution of tax disputes, including transfer pricing. Barbara is recognized as one of The Best Lawyers in Canada in the area of Tax Law.
